Penwortham Heritage Trails

THIS WALK IS THE FIRST OF THREE HISTORICAL CIRCUITS IN AND AROUND PENWORTHAM.

Penwortham Heritage Trail 1, approx 2 miles

The walk is approximately 2 miles long and is on public highways, or cycle/ footpaths. There are no steep hills. There are shops and two excellent pubs en-route. The Pear Tree Inn serves food.

If cycling with children, please be aware that traffic on Leyland Road can be busy, but the remainder of the route is on quieter roads or cycle paths.

The walk begins and ends at the Black Bull Inn, Pope Lane (PR1 9BA). There is a free car park behind the row of shops next to the inn. The bus route from Preston is Penwortham 3 (every 10 minutes). Alight at ‘The Shampan’ restaurant, near the Black Bull inn.


THIS WALK IS THE SECOND OF THREE HISTORICAL CIRCUITS IN AND AROUND PENWORTHAM.

Penwortham Heritage Trail 2, approx 2.5 miles

The walk is approximately 2½ miles long and will take 1½ to 2 hours. It is on public highways, or cycle/footpaths. There are some hills and steps. There are shops, cafes and an excellent pub en-route that serves food.

If cycling with children, please be aware that traffic on Liverpool Road and Cop Lane can be busy, but the remainder of the route is on quieter roads or cycle paths.

The walk begins and ends at the Lodge, Hurst Grange (now a private house) on Hill Road, PR1 9XH. There is a free car park nearby at the Cemetery on Hill Road. The bus route from Preston is Penwortham number 3 (every 10 minutes). Alight at Penwortham Library and walk down Hill Road.

The walk is approximately 4.3 miles long and is on public highways, or cycle/ footpaths. There are some steps. There are cafes en-route.

If cycling with children, please be aware that traffic on Leyland Road and Cop Lane can be busy, but the remainder of the route is on quieter roads or cycle paths.

The walk begins and ends at Booths Supermarket on Millbrook Lane. For those joining the walk by bus take the Penwortham no. 3 service to the Cromwell Road stop and join the walk at point 1 on the map.
